As anyone researching family history knows, it takes a lot of time to gather information - getting that box of pictures down from the closet, asking favorite aunts for recollections, researching on the web. Even recording your own story takes time and effort. All of this is very appreciated and acknowledged as benefiting both us and future generations. Those who have retired can find this a rewarding hobby and a way to share family stories they know and learn about new stories they may not have previously known. And for the younger generation, it may be part of a school or special interest project.
Though a lot of this work is volunteered time, setting up and hosting a web site does incur out-of -pocket costs. (Is there someone in the family that has a web hosting business?). While not a huge sum, we would like to defray those costs among more family members - particularly for the startup costs which have amounted to a few thousand dollars.
We rely on your help for new content - you are the source of all of our stories on the site. So please feel excited about how you can uncover and share elements of your family history and send us your content. There are a few ways to do this: - see below. Perhaps more important than the dollar costs are the types of help needed for the ongoing addition and management of new information. This primarily involves help in scanning and uploading documents and managing timeline(s). Any help with these tasks would be greatly appreciated - and we're happy to train you for that. A more technical skill, should someone be interested, is help with the application software - both coding and design. While this initial implementation is mostly complete, we'll probably need to continue to evolve as the environments and needs/requests (including bug fixes) evolve.
